  Welcome to the Wheel World

"Welcome to the Wheel World" was installed in early Sept 2008. The piece can be seen in front of the Beacon Hill International school on 14th ave. at Hill street on Beacon Hill in Seattle. Special thanks to Angela Castaneda for making it happen (she had the notion to get me to do a piece for the school and raised the funds:). The projection of the globe is unusual as it puts the north pole in the center. The piece is made of stainless steel except for the rusted cor-ten steel continents.

This project was funded in part by a matching grant from the Department of
Neighborhoods and donations from the Beacon Hill International School community.
Special thanks to Vashon College and Bob Powell for use of the OMAX machine, and to
cement-mixer wizard Christopher Hoff, the infamous Christian Swenson, and Beacon Hill
parent volunteers for help digging and pouring the footings!

The slideshow contains some pics of the process. Check out the low tech tube roller I made for making the "tires".
